In honor of Patrick Stewart's impending knighthood, Andrew Sullivan has been linking clips of Stewart's guest role on Sesame Street. This excerpt should be especially relevant to the interests of fellow Hamlet fans on the flist.

You know I was just reading this morning an interview with DT in a US newspaper (I've been noticing that because no one here knows who he is, the interviews he's done with US reporters are a lot more interesting b/c it's not just the same 5 questions he gets asked all the time) where the reporter noted that Patrick Stewart had once said that the reason he's so in demand for Sci Fi roles is that as a Shakespearian actor you have to be able to say lines that sound a bit weird (and/or ridiculous) to modern ears with absolute conviction. Like the above! Love it!

That's the B all and end all, isn't it?

Lovely. It should be noted that both "bare" and "bodkin" beginneth with B. The "bare bodkin" bit has been my favorite since seeing Lawrence Harvey's version in The Magic Christian. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bXAj_-LAK4

It's probably my favorite movie of all time.

I was in LA on my 30th birthday at Morton's steakhouse, and Patrick Stewart was sitting a few tables away. At one point he got up to go to the bathroom, and I was tempted to follow him to the urinal and exclaim, "No. 1, making it so!" but I thought that would be a really rude thing to do to someone whose work I respected, so I contented myself with cracking up my dinner companions with the idea.

You say the punchline was obvious, but I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop: "...where no 1 has gone..."

Wow, since when does the Count do zero-based counting?
