More garden shots ...

The new camera has arrived! To celebrate, I took a few more garden shots.

I'm very happy with the camera so far. The photos seem much brighter and crisper than the ones I took with [livejournal.com profile] columbina's camera, though admittedly, his is much older and is only 2 megapixels. The Canon PowerShot A630 is 8MP. Eight! For $200! (Insert standard old-person rant here about "why, when I was a lass, you couldn't buy a 1MP camera for less than $500, and you couldn't get it online, and you had to walk to Best Buy in the snow, uphill, both ways ... .")

The columbines are in bloom!

The peas are only about three weeks old and haven't quite reached the bottom of the trellis. In another few weeks they'll be all over it and trying to escape into the next yard.

I love this stripey phlox. Love it. I bought a bunch of phlox on a whim a few years ago because I wanted something that would smother the grass below it. It worked, mostly, though it also smothered the vinca, at least on the sunnier side of the front garden. Oops. The vinca has taken over the less sunny side, though, so I guess we have plant revenge, or at least détente.

And SOME of us know from experience that each flower of phlox DOES have a drop of sweet nectar on its base (I guess it was the seasonal lack of vitamins that made us eat the tree buds and flowers each spring. Another plant with similar sweetness was White Deadnettle).
