That's the first photo I've taken with the iPhone. It's slightly color-adjusted -- looks like the iPhone runs really blue -- but man, I was standing among the green bean plants, watching massive bumblebees and butterflies go by, and I had to take a photo.
Good fucking god, it was a long day. One of the reasons I work for myself is so that I don't ever have to semi-permanently report to anyone I'd like to stab, and yesterday and today have definitely been Stabbing Days.
The trip to the farm really helped. I had tons to do at work, but I was the only one available for the CSA pickup, and this turned out to be for the best. I listened to Belle & Sebastian there and back (I challenge anyone to listen to The Life Pursuit and not be cheered-up), and spending half an hour picking green beans and tomatoes in the fields was very contemplative. Even the mosquito bite I got -- the little suckers just love me -- isn't all that bad.
Also, as I write this, I am down most of a martini, which is helping quite a bit.
Things we received from the CSA this week:
- A quart of green beans
- A quart of cherry and grape tomatoes
- Seven tomatoes
- Seven ears of corn
- A watermelon the size of a rugby ball (and that was one of the small ones)
- A red kuri squash
- Four summer squash (pattypans are my new favorite squash)
- Tatsoi
- Scallions (HUGE)
- Two leeks
- Four green peppers, plus four hot peppers
- Two heads of lettuce
- Fourteen carrots
- Two pounds of assorted potatoes
- A bunch of parsley
- FIVE softball-sized eggplants. Since there are only two of us splitting the share this week, I only took two, because what the fuck am I going to do with two or three eggplants that big?
- Two heads of garlic
A share is supposed to last a family of four one week. We are splitting it among three couples, and I still have more vegetables than I know what to do with.
And now, BLTs, assuming I am sober enough to cut open a package of bacon.
