I'm voting in this year's Hugo Awards (and going to Worldcon in Finland, WOOOOOO), and having just finished the last of the novel nominees, am logging my thoughts. All reviews are pasted from my Goodreads account, so if you follow me there, this post should look familiar.

Next up: can I finish the novellas, novelettes, and short stories before the July 15 deadline? Well, I'm going to try to read each one in a day (and the short stories in a single day), so maybe? We'll see, I guess.

Man, tracking what I read on Goodreads sure has made this post easier to compile. (In fact, if you follow me there, you've read all these reviews already.) I made a concerted effort this year to read more books by women and/or non-white folks, and I'm glad I did, because I got points of view and writing styles I might not otherwise encounter. I plan to continue this approach next year.

I'm going to Loncon this year, and as a member of the con, I can nominate (and vote!) in this year's Hugo awards. As I did several years ago, I plan to read all the nominees for novel, novella, novelette, and short story and post impressions here.

This took a good two, two and a half hours to write. Maybe I should make a New Year's resolution to start tracking things on Goodreads so that I don't have to come back to my totally unannotated list of books and try to remember what I had to say about each one, or maybe I should just jot down a few notes after I finish each book. Somehow, though, that feels like cheating.

2011 reading list

One of my New Year's resolutions this year was to read at least two books per month. This doesn't sound like much -- I'm sure I read more when I was commuting on a regular basis -- but it's still more than what I've been reading lately. I didn't quite make it to 24, but I got damned close (21), and feel like I met the spirit of the challenge anyway, what with nearly half the books being 750-1,000 pages long.
