26 Monkeys, Also the Abyss

It's the first of the Hugo Award nominees for short story that I've read, and it completely blew me away. If the others are half this good, this should be a terrific category.

(Novelette wasn't bad – nothing I hated, nothing I thought was perfect.)

I know! Haunting and awesome. I love it. When it came out in Asimov's Magazine it was one of the ones I came back to over and over.

Kij Johnson is also a pretty nifty person. I've only met her once but she's a friend of several friends of mine (excellent writers all) and I like her a great deal.
