My body is busy turning energy into mucus, so unfortunately I'm not well enough to attend my niece's fourth birthday party today. Which is a shame, because I was really looking forward to seeing her wear this:

Dinosaur hat

It's based on this Brain Monster hat pattern, though I made it slightly shorter so it would fit better on a smaller head, and I knit in the eyes so there was no risk of my niece or her one-year-old brother removing and eating the googly eyes called for in the pattern. It's also in green yarn (Cascade Superwash, I think) so it looks more dinosaur-like, since the niece has entered a dinosaurs-are-awesome phase I hope lasts a good, long time.

I have to make another one of these for a friend – he says he's going to wear it snowboarding – but it's silly enough that I'm tempted to make one for myself, too.

(BTW, the white cord at the top of the photo is an Airport Express power cable, not part of the hat – the hat is resting on top of the router.)

That is awesome, and I like the knitted eyes! Pretty color, too.

OMG that is excellent! And Baby Niece is four!!!! Congratulations to her and her parents. I think the next time we're up your way for a few days, we should all get together (Nathan *loves* older women!).

This is awesome! I am not a hat person, but I would totally wear this hat!

I love it!

By the way, my sister-in-law, who is also a knitter, is going to knit a Jayne Cobb hat for my husband for next year's Halloween costume. :)

EXACTLY. We'll have to sing the song too, and that makes me happy.

"My body is busy turning energy into mucus..."

I've often thought how wonderful it would be if we could somehow harness the manufacturing power expended in our lowly sinuses. Man, blow your nose, and it immediately fills up again! Immediately! How does it DO that? One of the most efficient factories on the planet, and all it makes is slime. Such a waste of valuable energy.

Nice hat, though.

Did I get this (http://www.wikihow.com/Crochet-a-Yip-Yip-Alien) from you? Got it somewhere on LJ. I realize it isn't knit, but quite often crochet and knit are kindred skills. These are so cute and look so easy.

This is all basic single-crochet and chain stitches, so it might be a good one to learn on. I'm a little hesitant about the tight chains for the tentacles, will probably use a smaller hook to get the same effect. But aren't they darling?

I would think one visit to a yarn store would give you enough instruction to pull this off. I see people in there all the time, asking for advice and clarification. If you can knit, you can crochet. I especially enjoy the portability of granny squares, for example. Go for it!

Sorry to hear you're feeling bad. After a week of both myself and my sweetie being sick, I certainly empathize.

That hat is MADE OF UTTER WIN, though. I would totally wear it myself. Inna second. Then again, I like silly hats [see icon].

Sadly, I can't knit (though I have been wanting to learn at some point), but I did bookmark the pattern so that I might try and charm one of my local knitter friends into making one for me. :)
