50 Recipes 2011, #8: quick sausage sauce

I've been watching Worst Cooks in America -- I have no idea why, because watching the contestants make basic cooking errors is incredibly frustrating -- but on Sunday, they made a quick sausage ragù over polenta cakes that looked really good. I didn't plan on going to the trouble of making my own sausage as the first step, which frankly negates the "quick" part of the recipe title, in my opinion. Also, I decided to serve this over mashed potatoes, because much as I enjoy polenta, we have a good three pounds of CSA potatoes that need eating.

It's a very easy recipe, and I'll agree it's quick, assuming you have pre-made sausage and a food processor to mince the vegetables as required; I'll probably try it again over the polenta at some point. And if I ever get around to ordering the sausage grinder attachment for my KitchenAid I've been meaning to buy for forever now, maybe I'll even make it with my own sausage.

if you have potatoes to use, make röstis for a change:
grate your cooked and pealed potatoes (with a big hole grate), make a cake of it with a tad of salt and peper, cook in a frying pan with a little bit of oil/grease/butter/...

Here is the "bernois" version, it involves adding bacon cubes... :P http://www.saison.ch/fr/recettes/rosti-bernois/detail/
