For the record, about the only thing that could make "Voyage of the Damned" even more boring is watching it on SciFi with 90 million commercials. But at least every now and then I can look up from the fic I'm working on in the background, or the

calufrax recs I'm starting to write up, and go "Oh, look, the pretty man is on TV."

I'm really looking forward to your calufrax recs.

I start reccing on Monday. The tough part has been narrowing it down to only seven stories, but so far (fingers crossed) only one of the stories I'd considered picking has already been recced by someone else.

It's an eclectic mix, that's for sure.

Are the Monkees and/or Stevie Nicks involved in any way?

NO.

The first time I watched it, it was alright. I thought it was better on a second watching. Does that makes me really weird? Then again, during the second watching I was more into the little dialogue-y bits and the moments of fun and I tuned out and knitted during stuff that I didn't care much for. Or thinking not-so-innocent thoughts during parts that I thought were eh (re: when the Doctor takes the helm).

Second time around, it was even more apparent to me how much it all goes downhill once the meteors hit the Titanic and the episode just becomes a bad disaster movie. I enjoyed the opening sections more, though I think SciFi cut part of "The Stowaway," and may have even cut my favorite scene, the one where Astrid blatantly comes on to the Doctor. ("You should see me in the morning." "Okay.") On the other hand, I wasn't paying complete attention, so maybe I missed that bit?

I'm watching it right now and it's awful! I had such high hopes for this episode! Kylie was much better on Kath & Kim.

At least you think he's pretty. I don't even have that; I really miss Christopher Eccleston.

I hear you about Christopher Eccleston. I have heard rumors he's coming back to Heroes, which would make me very happy, especially since his last film tanked, there's bad buzz about the next one, and he's off filming G.I. Joe right now, which I am very unlikely to see.

As for Series 4 -- I've enjoyed both episodes I've seen so far, so hopefully you'll like them, too. They are way, way better than Voyage of the Damned, that's for sure.

I was amused by "Voyage of the Damned", actually. The Poseidon Adventure in space!!

I think it would have been fine if it had been about 15 minutes shorter and Tennant and Minogue had any chemistry whatsoever. Seriously, it takes effort not to have chemistry with that man, but somehow Kylie managed it. (Actually, I suppose I should blame RTD for writing such a bland, stock character, but I don't think Kylie's limited acting range helped.)

I suspect that my extreme amusement is partly an age thing. "The Poseidon Adventure" was a fixture of my formative years. And I don't know how old RTD is, but looking at him I'd guess he's closer to my age than yours.

Maybe that's it. IMDB says Davies was born in 1963; I was born in 1970, so yeah, he's closer to your age than mine.
