I have a martini and election coverage on the TV (though we'll switch off briefly for Jeopardy!) and somehow, somehow I have to make it through the next few hours.

Obama had better fucking win, is all I have to say. The Republicans need their asses handed to them. They've earned it.

Also, for the record, much as I love the calm, soothing, intelligent BBC America coverage, it is much harder to follow after drinking a martini.

It's a little hilarious to watch election coverage this early.

7:30 PM Eastern: AMERICA. TOO CLOSE TO CALL.

How in the name of the Flying Spaghetti Monster can they call ANYTHING with 0% of the precincts reporting? Did we learn NOTHING from the 2000 election?

However, I will say that my home state of Alabama is not too close to call. If Obama wins, I'll eat my USB cable.

(Do not ask me where the "USB cable" part came from. I just didn't want to say "my hat," because I don't really have a hat, and that's what popped into my mostly empty head.)

They can certainly begin to call with 1%, depending on where those precincts are. For example, BBCA is calling Pennsylvania for Obama because apparently, 40% of PA's votes are in Philadelphia, and there's no way Philly isn't going for Obama.

But yeah, some of these states, it hardly matters whether you've got results at all. MA is clearly going to be Obama country, for example.

(BTW, I strongly suggest watching BBCA's coverage, at least until Comedy Central kicks in at 10. The Brits seem to think of us as one gigantic, unintentionally funny country. I think they may be right.)

MSNBC just called Alabama for McCain. Dude, I could have done that last month.

I am SO not getting any work done. I will struggle to fix ONE more bug today.

Actually, I already sat through a hellish morning with one client, and fixed a "gimme" bug that took like 4 seconds, for another.

I wish more than anything that I could be at the Tonga Room eating nibblies and drinking strong rum drinks out of freshly hollowed pineapples.

Oooooooh ... the Tonga Room with pineapple drinks would be the perfect place to watch the returns.
