The conversation about Rose was the first thing I added when I revisited the fic fragment I had; I'm not really sure where it came from, but it felt to me like the story needed to be built around that.
Oddly, I am probably one of the few multishippers who doesn't believe Ten slept with Reinette. But as I said to platypus after she returned my story, the great thing about DW canon is that multiple visions of the lead character -- in love with Rose; in love with Reinette; sleeping with either of them; mostly asexual -- are all defensible. It was a little weird writing a story that represents something I don't think happened, but it felt true to the characters nevertheless.
(Aside: Something that drives me nuts about GITF fic is how many stories seem to assume that Rose knows the Doctor kissed Reinette. How exactly is that supposed to have happened? He never tells her that we know of; the only conversation that even implies there's a reason to be jealous is between Rose and Mickey (and later, to some extent, between Rose and Reinette, but there's still no mention of the kiss). I'm sure she could tell that he cared deeply for Reinette, but there's a difference between recognizing that and magically knowing that your not-quite-boyfriend has kissed someone else.)
