Kurtz is not well-beloved, but it's never been about his art. Fans dislike him for his allegedly imperious attitude and his bad deadline habits. I have no proof of the former, but his strip "Ding!" has had a rough history:
1. First he wrote and drew it, and it never came out anywhere near the schedule it was supposed to; 2. Then he farmed the art out to Paul Southworth and it still didn't come out often enough; 3. Then eventually he said the problem was that he'd run out of material for the original idea of the strip and that he was changing it to be stories from actual WoW experiences by actual players, which could be submitted to him, and that he was going to return to writing and drawing; 4. And since that announcement exactly ONE such strip has come out (still drawn by Southworth), back on the 14th of January.
I don't understand what it is with cartoonists/comic artists and deadlines. I'm not in any way demeaning what they do (I sure as hell can't do it), but do they just perpetually overcommit, or is it that they are pushed into overcommitting by their editors/publishers/syndicate?
