Speaking of cucumbers, I ran into the lady who used to own the only German restaurant around here, and I asked her about their cucumber salad, which I have missed fiercely. It's just chopped cucumbers, sour cream, a little garlic oil, and fresh dill, refrigerated for a while to let the flavors meld. The garlic oil is what I've always missed when I've tried to make it.
