Year-end fic meme

Hoo boy, lots of fic this year:
Leitmotif of the year:
Leitmotif? Does my fic have any leitmotifs other than porn and angst, with and without a side of crack?
Overall Thoughts:
I'm still writing? How the hell did that happen? I keep thinking that whatever I'm working on will be the last story before my writing ability packs it in again, and so far (fingers crossed) that hasn't happened.
My other thought, which I always have as I wearily approach the end of whatever latest Zeno's Fic I'm working on, is that fic writing would be so much easier if I didn't have any standards.
My best story of this year:
"Fake Palindromes." There are some close seconds, like "Echoes" and "Forget-Me-Not," but I really think "Fake Palindromes" is the winner.
My favorite story of this year:
"Deadweight," oddly enough. I was reading Belle's book at the time, so her voice was pretty fresh in my mind, and she was fun to write. Also, I am very partial to the fucked-up scenario described in the prompt.
Story of mine most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Honestly, I don't feel like any of them were underappreciated. Even the ones that received a small number of comments were appreciated by the people for whom they were written, which is part of the point of filling kinkmeme prompts in the first place.
Most fun story to write:
Probably "A Dream of a Thousand Pterosaurs," because of the cracky setup and having to work Neil Gaiman into the story. The title of the story, for the the three or four people who may care about such trivia, is taken from a Sandman story called "A Dream of a Thousand Cats," in which the reader discovers that cats dream of taking over the world. (No surprise to any cat owner, of course.)
Story with the single sexiest moment:
I WRITE A LOT OF PORN. DO NOT MAKE ME CHOOSE.
Okay, if I must choose, my favorite moments are both in "Echoes": the first, where River seduces Ten in the shower; and the second, with the two of them on the hotel balcony.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
Well, this, at least, is easy: Jack/Myfanwy with Neil Gaiman watching, duh.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
"Capacitance." I really liked Christina before I started writing it, but in order to get a handle on her character and voice, I had to write the story from her POV. The longer I spent thinking like her, the more shallow and underdeveloped she seemed as a character. I still like the story just fine, but I wish Rusty had given us more to work with here.
Hardest story to write:
"Echoes." 'Nuf said.
Biggest Disappointment:
I wish "Cross Connections" were funnier. I had to abandon my first choice for the fic exchange when I discovered another story that was too similar to what I had in mind, and sometimes making "Cross Connections" funny enough was like pulling teeth. It still amuses me, but not as much as it should.
I also wish I could have finally written some original fiction again. I may have been able to break that sixteen years of writer's block with fic, but have yet to break it for anything original.
Biggest Surprise:
See answer to question #2. I'm still writing! What the hell?
Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
I refuse to answer under the grounds that I might incriminate myself. (As if some of my kinks aren't blatantly obvious from the stuff I write anyway.)
Story I haven't yet written, but intend to:
I swear I will someday finish the cracky Four/Romana II wedding fic. A half-finished draft has been taunting me for over a year now, and I really want to figure out how to make it work.
... and now, off to get ready for NYE dinner with a friend. Happy new year, everyone!
Hoo boy, lots of fic this year:
- Fake Palindromes (Handy/Ace)
- Drabble extensions to Time Enough for Love, Leap in the Dark, and Without a Hitch
- Capacitance (Ten/Christina)
- Cross Connections (Handy/Simm!Master/Romana II), written for the
bluesuit_fic fic exchange - A Ten/Rose drabble for
the_tenzo's Joy of Sex prompt game - Echoes (Ten/River)
- ... and as usual, a bunch of kinkmeme ficlets: A Dream of a Thousand Pterosaurs (Jack/Myfanwy); Forget-Me-Not (Nine/Romana II); Fleur de Sel (Ten/Rose); Let Those Who Thirst Partake (Ten/Jack/Sarah Jane); Deadweight (Eleven/Belle from SDoaCG); Scars (Ace/Martha); and Voltage (Ten/Simm!Master).

It's hard to believe that's an artifact of 2009. It seems like it's always been with us. Like the Monolith. Or herpes.
j/k we love that shit
