Grocery store redux
Mar. 19th, 2007 06:13 pm1) The nearby grocery store carries neither the Ben & Jerry's Cinnamon Buns ice cream
chicklet73 recommended so highly, nor my latest crack, Hershey's Coconut Creme Kisses. This fills me with sadness. Still, this is Boston, not the boonies, and there are plenty of other stores to try. Plus, if all else fails, Waterbury, VT is only a three-hour drive away!
2) It's one of the few times of year when grocery stores acknowledge there are religions other than Christianity, so I figured I'd pick up a box of matzot before they run out of the good (read: non-Manischewitz, non-Streit's) brands. The brand I bought claims to have won a taste test in 2002, quoting The San Francisco Chronicle: "Crunchy, with good snap."
Speaking as someone who has to live on this stuff for eight days: "snap" doesn't enter into my decision-making process when it comes to buying matzot. Now, if the Chronicle had gone with "tastes substantially better than the box it's packed in," that I would consider a ringing endorsement.

columbina has brought back Stay Tuned. The most recent entry contains one of the best sentences he's ever written: "The ecumenical cycle of the retailer begins with the Feast of St. Valentine, then Easter, then the Holy Days of Grilling and Suntan Lotion, then All Souls Eat Candy, then Christmas." Go read and enjoy.
