I agree with [livejournal.com profile] platypus: by the end of the specials, I was glad to have a new Doctor. For me, the fun was completely gone from the show. And as someone who got on a transatlantic flight just to see DT in a play, I didn't expect to feel that way and was actually a little resentful that I was ready to be done with 10 when he actually regenerated. Maybe that was Rusty trying to make us ready for 11? (I don't know if he is subtle enough for that.)

There are some things that this series has done exceptionally well: the overarching plot, RORY!, most of the monsters (the Daleks and the Hungry Earth were not my favorite), RORY!, little Amelia Pond, and of course, River! I have my moments where I love Amy and where I want to slap her, but I felt that way about Martha too for different reasons. The Doctor is fun and quirky and a little more alien and eats fish custard. I have been watching some Classic Who in recent months, and I feel like this series is much more evocative of Classic Who than Rusty's. I think that Rusty's was an evolution of the themes of the show while Moff is bringing us back to the original tradition while being mindful of the need to keep things fresh.

The one thing that I am not feeling this season: the music. I feel like Murray hasn't been asked to establish themes the way he did in the past, and I don't like the use of the pop songs in the episodes. There is a kick ass composer on the production team. Why do they need song by Athlete that came out in 2005? (I have owned that album for years.) I have finally come around to the reboot of the opening theme song, which definitely comes from watching the Classic Who.
