I felt the same way. EoT was for the most part so ludicrously bad (especially Ten's final line) that I was actually a little angry this was Tennant's send-off, but it was really what made me ready to watch someone else in the role. Not that TBB wasn't over-the-top in its own way, but it was a different over-the-top. Who knows, maybe I'll be sick of Teh Moff's approach to finales in a few years?
I feel like this series is much more evocative of Classic Who than Rusty's.

The one thing that I am not feeling this season: the music.
I think I've been enjoying it more, actually, probably because they finally figured out they needed to turn it the fuck down. I can hear the dialogue now!
