I wouldn't say "back into original stuff" so much as "still somewhat depressed I haven't won a Hugo or a Nebula yet, and you know, that would be a hell of a lot more likely to happen if I actually tried working on original characters again."
Of course, there's a big difference between wanting to work on original stuff and actually being able to do it, but we'll see how that goes.
