Fusions vs. crossovers: as I understand it, a crossover merely includes characters from multiple fandoms. In a fusion, characters from one fandom are essentially "merged" into characters from another, almost like a form of AU. So a fic where Four and Romana meet Sherlock and Joan from Elementary is a crossover; a fic where Four and Romana are reinterpreted as Sherlock and Joan from Elementary is a fusion.
