I have other friends who loved Space Opera, but I look at what I read and wonder how exactly that could happen. I guess it's a writing style you either love or hate, and it's pretty clear what side of the dividing line I fall on.
You might like Trail of Lightning! It got a terrific review over on Tor! It was just really not my thing, unfortunately.
