FWIW, I took Eve11's recommendation a while back, and I've read several installments of Be Afraid, and to my untrained eye, they seemed pretty good. I think a lot (all?) of it was written before 13 premiered (none of the TV companions are present in the series). It's a somewhat darker 13 than Chibs' version, and I must say I like it -- my main complaint (and it's a small one, to be sure) about 13 is that, until the New Year's special, we never see the Oncoming Storm facet of the Doctor. Even with racists and witch-hunters she sounds at most exasperated rather than deeply enraged.
