Honestly, I feel like yesterday's meal was one of my best, which is good, because we've got enough leftovers for several days even after the guests took stuff home.
  • Goat-cheese stuffed dates (I used Alton Brown's sherry-soaking method to soften and flavor the dates first)

  • Serious Eats' smoky candied almonds

  • Grilled butterflied turkey and porcini gravy, recipe adapted to swap in cornstarch slurry instead of thickening with a roux so that our celiac guest could eat it

  • Vegetarian main: cheesy sweet potato and black bean casserole

  • Cornbread dressing

  • Mashed potatoes with caramelized onions

  • Cranberry-raspberry sauce

  • Shredded brussels sprouts salad with lemon-honey-shallot vinaigrette, toasted walnuts, and shaved Parmesan

  • Biscuits

  • Spiced cider sorbet

  • Pecan pie

  • Tiny chocolate-covered fruit paste cubes from LA Burdick

  • Mini GF cheesecakes a guest brought

The turkey carcass, its backbone, and some previous chicken backbones are now turning into stock, which is my only cooking task for the day unless I decide to make turkey salad. Tomorrow, the spouse will turn much of this stock into gumbo, and Sunday, fuck it, I dunno, we may still be eating leftovers. (I also foolishly swapped my CSA butternut squash and apples for an extra bag of sweet potatoes, and now we have five pounds of sweet potatoes? Which I sure hope we can eat before they go bad, though I'm currently contemplating sweet potato pie, which would also get rid of the glut of heavy cream in the house.)

Anyway, if you observe Thanksgiving, however you choose to, I hope it was a good one.
