We don't know exactly when our kitties were born, but we're pretty sure it was early June, so traditionally, their birthday is MIT's commencement, which takes place at about the same time. Today, in fact.

Inu is a very sleepy 19.


Mr. Peterson is a slightly more alert 18.


They're definitely in that old, cranky, and declining stage of their lives, and I'm going to miss them when they're gone.

Ah, well, 18 and 19 are about the same, just with more sleep. Although Mr. P has gotten squeakier as he's gotten older, which is not an improvement.

She's my first cat, actually, and spent her first year in an MIT dorm. Remembering that makes *me* feel old.

I <3 them both so much. They feel like my cats too, except for the not-having-to-feed-and-dose-them parts. How did we all get so damn old?

He probably wouldn't even care anymore. He'd be, like, "Yeah, A*****e, I remember you -- bugger off, I'm busy sleeping."

I've always had great affection for Inu -- she's more cat for your cat dollar.

Mr. P has actually gotten surprisingly friendly in his old age. You, Clare, and Nathan will have to come by next time you're in town to see how he and Inu are doing.

There's something... comfortable about older cats. Yeah, they're cranky, but you know them and they know you, and you can just sit and be together.

Aw, man. I didn't realize how old they are! My childhood cat lived to 18, and she was very crotchety and deaf toward the end, but she was a fixture, you know?

Young Miss Inu has definitely gotten crabbier as she's gotten older, not to mention louder since she's gone deaf. But I still wouldn't trade them for other cats.

Well, all that made me misty. I've had my own adventures with Mr. P & Inu, complete with "dammit, will you come out and take this ick like a good boy!" and "thank you for moving the cat feeder into a dark recess in basement missy".

They are the feline equivalent of Statler & Waldorf, with mews and squeaks instead of dry commentary :)

OH GOD they are totally Statler & Waldorf! They're even both sitting next to each other on the couch right now, half-asleep but also pissed off that we didn't give them those cushions soon enough.

Inu is very cute with that rub-me belly. The tom has those white hairs on his face, like old peopel.

You should see this embarassing photo of Inu's belly. (Well, embarassing for her, not for me.)

Mr. P used to be all black but started acquiring white hairs a couple of years ago. They're actually kind of cute.

My old lady is 14ish, so she's got a ways yet before she reaches the dignified old ages of Inu and Mr. P. I love old kitties. <3

Mr. P is curled up sort of like this right now, with his little paws twitching while he dreams. I could not possibly make something out of Fimo that was that cute.
