I don't even want to talk about what today has been like, much less talk about what the rest of the week is going to be like, so instead I'm going to clear out my head by starting a meme I've been thinking about for a while:

We've all got a story we'll never end up writing. Post a summary of yours, and why you'll never write it.

I've got two:

1. The Epic Lost/Doctor Who Crossover
[livejournal.com profile] kalleah and I have been batting this one back and forth forever – it would involve Daniel Faraday as Twelve. I had a vague plot sorted out in my head with the Island as the Time Lords' Matrix, and Eloise Hawking as Romana (with all the creepy Oedipal overtones that might imply), but it's never going to get written, because I don't have enough Lost character voices in my head to pull it off. Also, there would be more plot involved than I'm generally capable of constructing. (Still, if someone else wants to take this, be my guest, because damn, I'd like to read it.)

2. The Incredibly Depressing Post-FotD Story
The original idea I had for the [livejournal.com profile] who_like_giants ficathon was looking at what happens to River Song and her crew after FotD. What intrigued me about this is the way people's memories kept getting rewritten in FotD, with only Miss Evangelista remembering the truth, because if you have a bunch of people living in an essentially unchanging world, never aging, how quickly do they get bored? How quickly do they realize that something is wrong with the nature of their existence? It struck me that the only way CAL could keep River and the team sane would literally be to reset their memories every so often ... and so what would happen when CAL's circuits eventually fail, and the old memories started to bleed through?

It should be obvious why I didn't end up writing this. Just the thought of it depressed me so much that I'm not sure I even kept my notes. Crap, it depresses me just now thinking about it. Maybe I should come up with happy ideas that I don't end up writing instead.

Hilarious random fact: years and years ago, back in the dark ages nineties, my friend [livejournal.com profile] rj_anderson wrote a series of fics about the Twelfth Doctor and an OC companion. Last year, she filed the serial numbers off and turned it into a novel, and named the character-who-was-once-the-Doctor "Faraday". Then she discovered it was also the name of a character on Lost, but decided not to change it because it suited him so well.

My point is, is it possible you guys have somehow stumbled on a cultural undermind thing?

It would be superb, but good God, what a plotting mess it would be.

Your second prompt is really close to one of the stories I'M never going to write-- but I keep thinking about it anyway! River's ending really weirds me out, and I want to write it ending happily... but I just don't know how it would.
