30 Days of Who meme, day 3: favorite new series episode

"Girl in the Fireplace" has been at the top of my list since it aired, and while there are others that come very close (like "Midnight" and "The Eleventh Hour"), this one's still the winner.



I love the way the episode looks, I love Moffat's trademark clever dialogue, I love that Rose does not spend the episode giving Reinette the evil eye (Y HALO THAR, "School Reunion"), I love the costumes, I love the heartbreaking emotions involved, and most of all, I love watching Ten and Reinette together. Tennant and Myles have smokin' chemistry onscreen (no surprise there, given they started dating afterwards), and this episode exemplifies a key characteristic of the Doctor's I think a lot of fic writers miss: he's open to the idea of romance, but someone else is always going to have to make the first move. And boy, does Reinette ever make that first move.

definitely one of my favourites, both new series and classic. it's funny and exciting and very moving. i love how cute rose and mickey are with each other. and i love how clever it is -- the first time i watched it i liked it, but the emotions didn't quite get me. it all happened so fast. but then i realised it was a sort of metaphor for how all of the doctor's relationships with humans progress -- for them, he's a huge, life-altering presence throughout their life, for him, they come in and out of his life in the blink of an eye... but he still loves them. i think most viewers have at some point or another watched the show and been like, "omg, doctor, get over yourself and just enjoy what you have while you have it!" but this episode is a way for us to understand what it's like to be him. meeting someone, falling for them, sharing a few brief moments, losing them, all in the space of a day, over and over and over... yeah. it's pretty amazing.

It's just amazing. I really did sit and think for a while whether any other New Who episode I've seen could top it, but this one is still the clear winner.

Mind you, the fact that Tennant is unbelievably hot in this episode doesn't hurt, either.

a lot of moff's episodes are about love. not just romantic love, though. like, tEC/tDD is really all about the love between a parent and a child. and SitL/FotD has both. and how very stupid things can get in its way, like going to the other side of a fireplace, or stuttering when you're trying to call someone's name.

and yes, tennant is massively hot in that ep.

LOVED "The Big Bang." Just loved it. I've already watched it two or three times and may have possibly watched the wedding and River marriage proposal scenes a lot more than that because I have no shame.
