Do asters naturalize and/or spread? Several stalks on one of my asters have travelled horizontally (like runners, but not putting down obvious roots) before going vertical again, so it looks like there are more aster plants.
Not sure whether to bury the horizontal parts to see if roots form.
I found one discussion forum message from someone who said her asters self-seeded, though another site I found said they have to be propagated through seed or plant division. So maybe you've got one of the varieties that naturalizes?
