We visited Macdonald Park in Medford today, not far from where we live. It was a gorgeous, sunny fall day, and the sea oats were especially pretty in the sunshine.

Sea oats, shot from a tall watchtower overlooking the grounds.

Sea oats

Specifically, this one. It felt quite sturdy, but the wind had enough strong gusts that every now and then, I could feel the tower move.

In another part of the park, there are a lot of unofficial, off-limits paths leading into the woods or the sea oats. Turns out the park is a popular gay cruising spot, which explains the awkward-looking man I saw standing at a bend in the path nearby.

Hidden path

The park runs alongside the Mystic River. We didn't end up going down to the river itself, but we did cross a small bridge running over this little culvert:

On the way out, we passed several trees with these striking yellow berries. (I have no idea what they are, so anyone who knows, please pipe up.) I wish I'd been able to get the macro focused on the red berry instead of the frontmost yellow ones, but the wind was moving the branches so much I felt lucky to get this shot at all.

Nothing wrong with luck! That's the only way my macros ever work. (Exhibit A (http://www.flickr.com/photos/var_able/5000801272/))
