Because I know there are at least a couple of you reading this LJ. This made me laugh really hard, and not just because my brain consists entirely of flu germs at this time.

"Yes, I wanted to do this as a kid. No, there were no printing colleges for me to study at. And no, Steve Guttenberg did not invent the printing press!"

Technically, you and I were typesetters, not printers. In comparison printers are, well, low. Typesetters are, at their core, artistes. Printers are mere technicians.

There's definitely an art to printing, but not one I ever tried to learn, since the equipment involved in the professional printing process is usually not the kind of stuff a college newspaper (or a design firm) has lying around.
