I don't post much publicly, primarily because a lot of what I post has to do with my work/clients, and that's not a thing I discuss where Google can find it. But there's nothing in this post that can't be posted where search engines can find it, so:

• I would like to be writing something. What, I'm not sure, but I am going to get something posted to Teaspoon or AO3 before the end of the year, dammit.


• Cooking! There's lots of that right now! Currently on the stove: waaaaay too much posole verde made with the St. Louis ribs we got from the fancypants butcher that someone to whom I'm married disappointingly refuses to eat as ribs, but will eat if stewed, so anyway, ribs + all the remaining green tomatoes from the garden + non-Goya hominy = posole verde.


• Also on the cooking front: Melissa Clark's gâteau Breton with fresh plums and cardamom from her book Dinner in French, because the CSA gave us fresh damson plums this week, and why the hell not? I'm not convinced this is going to turn out well – there was definitely some butter leakage from the springform pan (glad I put it on a foil-covered baking sheet!), and the recipe took a solid 30 minutes more than Clark specified. But I feel like with these ingredients, it's hard to go wrong, so we'll see.


• I don't normally turn over the garden on October 29, but I'm putting winter rye in for the first time as a nutrient-rich cover crop. Good for my garden, bad for my lower back, lol, but:


• Cortisone shot time on Tuesday for the lower back. This is my fourth one, but because these are related to disc issues and not joint ones, my spine guy has said I can have them for quite a while longer.


• Still, it would be nice to not have to have them at all.


• Or to be "I have a spine guy" years old.


• Anyway, still here, still on Twitter at @nonelvispub if you want to follow the public account, still planning on making that shithead's life hell in whatever small way I can now that he's bought Twitter.

I have both of her cookbooks, so I'm sure I have the recipe somewhere – I'm just the only person in the house who enjoys meat on the bone, alas.

Ooh, posole verde! Also plum gateau.

I am pleased to announce that both were delicious, though the gâteau is ever-so-slightly underdone in the middle, I suspect due to the variability of plum moisture. Still, it'a solid B+/A- dessert, so I'm happy.

Winter rye goes really well with winter vermouth.

I have a Knee Guy, a Heart Guy, an A-fib Guy (because the Heart Guy alone isn't enough), Guys for Prostate and Colon (who I've not needed to see in a while, most happily), and an Endocrinologist (so described because it would be wrong to call her the Fat Lady).

I was wondering what you would do about Twitter. I did think that you couldn't do away with it completely for business purposes, but I wasn't sure about other purposes. As I said to C., I really was considering getting an account before the takeover, but now ... just, no.

I don't have a Knee Guy -- yet (although that may change by the new year), but I do have a GI guy, an endocrinologist guy (and I don't think I have to see either of them again until 2025), and a spine/pain woman (whom I actually haven't seen for a couple years, but my back is starting to wake up from its long slumber, unfortunately) as well as just a plain spine guy (whom I hope never to see again, as if I do, that will mean that surgery is again in the cards) and a sleep woman. And in December, I get to go and have my doctor yell at me, for many good reasons, unfortunately.

Sad thing is, one of the reasons I even have this particular doctor -- aside from the fact that I like her anyway -- is that, nearly 20 years ago, she wanted to keep me in her practice because I was one of the youngest and healthiest -- she somehow wound up being an accidental gerontologist. (My reaction at that time, because I was undergoing a siege of various things, was somewhat incredulous.) I have now actually aged into her regular practice. The youngest part of it, but still. Alas.

Honestly, I rarely use my business account, but there are lots of people I'm only in touch with on Twitter, and frankly the microblog format provides a valuable venting outlet (on my locked account). I certainly don't blame you for continuing to stay away, though, especially now.

Between you and profrobert, I'm starting to feel lucky that I only have a spine guy and no other specialists (yet). I guess the periodontist counts, too, but fortunately, I haven't needed him in a while.
