Weekend report

I am strangely crabby today but will try to put that aside in favor of reporting back on how Passover dinner went, which is to say, very well.
The tiramatzah was a thing of beauty. It's easier to make than regular tiramisu because all you have to wrangle is matzah and not soaked ladyfingers, so as long as you can make custard, you can make this. I used Giada De Laurentiis' chocolate tiramisu recipe, which I've made before to great success.

You can see here it really does have that layered napoleon look by the time it's done. The matzah softened without getting slimy, and still retained a tiny bit of resistance.

Sadly, I have no photo of the fabulous brisket, made using Ina Garten's recipe, because inevitably when you photograph meat that is completely falling apart and covered in tomato sauce and stewed vegetables, it looks like dog food. But I do have slightly blurry photos of the charoset and the rosemary potatoes. (I need to figure out what I'm doing wrong to suddenly cause these blurry photos, since I do let the camera focus before taking the shot; it's probably something I changed when I was experimenting with manual settings.)

In unrelated news,
columbina and I kicked off Garden Madness 2008 today by planting this tree peony and three lobelia plants, and mowing the lawn. The tree peony won't bloom this year, but if we're lucky, we'll have blooms next year or the year after.

on 2008-04-20 09:13 pm (UTC)I think we're going to try and make homemade macaroons today. (LMH keeps calling them "maroons", which amuses me because I think of Bugs Bunny in "Bully for Bugs," saying "What a maroon!")
