nonelvis: (GARDEN bee)

Despite two straight nights of insomnia, I finally got off my tired, lazy ass to plant the vegetable garden today. All the seedlings are in the ground; the tomatoes are neatly labeled so I know what's what; and everything, including the tree peony, got a nice, long drink of fish fertilizer. (It's stinky, but effective.)

The rhododendron is beginning to bloom, and thus the blossoms all look like unusual tropical plants, or outer space mutants, or possibly just pitahayas.
Rhododendron

The three azaleas are bracketed on one end by the giant rudbeckia, and on the other by a massive hosta I probably should have divided weeks ago, but now it's too late. I'm not completely satisfied with the angles on this shot, but it's close to what I wanted, so I kept it. I am mostly happy with the light and shadow except for the giant dark patch at the right. (Digital cameras are terrific for instant gratification, but their viewscreens are utterly useless on a nice, sunny day.)

Oooh, I like the second photo. If you're not happy with it and you can get similar lighting, try overexposing it maybe 1/2 stop. You won't end up with too much of a light patch at the top left. (I personally like the contrast, for the record.)

I love these photos. And I have no problem with the outer space mutant flowers.

Plus, extra loving goes out for the bee icon.
