Another year, another Topsfield Fair.

I love the fruit and vegetable dioramas. The sweet potato weasel was my favorite ...


... but columbina preferred this scene from Alice in Wonderland rendered in squash.


EVIL BUNNY WANTS TO KILL YOU DED.


The oxen were huge. The photo doesn't really convey just how gigantic this ox was, but try to imagine you are looking at something six feet tall and extrapolate from there.


There were also these adorable sleeping yin/yang piglets.


FUZZY CHICKEN FEET. (Sorry about the focus problem, but you'll get the idea.)


Anthropomorphized food urging you to eat it will always crack me up.


I may have shot a photo of this ride last year, too. I still won't get on it.


And finally, my favorite signage of the fair. I didn't buy any popcorn (I had cheese fries instead ... mmm, greasy), but with an endorsement like this, the kettle korn couldn't possibly be bad.

Ugh, kettle corn. It looks and smells like it should taste so good, and then it's nothing special.

Yeah, I like popcorn just fine, but if I'm going to eat state fair food that's bad for me, there are much more egregiously bad choices I can (and should) make. It's a good thing we left when we did, or I would have topped off the cheese fries with softserve.

What WERE the most horrifying bits of fair food? I just saw "Dinner Impossible" where Michael Symon made a dessert: chocolate-covered, almond-encrusted BACON.

(There wasn't time for bacon fudge.)

It was disappointingly normal. We found the fried Oreo stand again, but that was it for unusual fried foods. Well, there was a crêpe stand, but that was more of a weird outlier than anything else.

I would eat the chocolate-covered, almond-encrusted bacon. You would too, and you know it.
