Thanksgiving is over, and though I could really use one more day of weekend, at least we've eaten well. The turkey, though tasty, was the least interesting part of the meal: that honor always goes to the many side dishes. This year, it was mashed potatoes with tons of roasted garlic and butter; Mediterranean white beans; shredded brussels sprouts with almonds; vegan cornbread dressing with lots of veggies (including a little leftover kale and garlic); and cranberry-tangerine conserve, a cranberry sauce so good that it may replace my beloved spiced cranberry sauce with Port at the Thanksgiving table from now on. Dessert was likewise excellent; the chocolate-cinnamon cream pie was delicious (as anything covered with that much whipped cream would be), the pumpkin soy ice cream went over well, and
jagpatel's amazing chocolate-cherry baklava is finally almost gone. (I may have to wrestle
columbina for the last piece. We shall see.)
On Friday,

columbina and I went to see Quantum of Solace, in which Things Blowed Up Real Good, and Daniel Craig was broodingly thuggish, and there was that Star Trek trailer that made me squee like a geeky squeeing thing. We followed that up with dinner at Redbones, disturbingly empty on a Friday night – so much so that we joked we should finish dinner and come back and eat again the same night, just because we wouldn't have to wait for a table.
Today, somehow we found room in our stomachs for dim sum downtown with
haineux (Shanghai noodles ... mmm), and we are slowly dealing with the glut of leftovers in the fridge. Good thing we like starch.
Tomorrow: TURKEY GUMBO.
columbina, a nice Louisiana boy, makes the best gumbo.
... and in a few days, even though
columbina strictly forbade me from ordering these, there will be dark chocolate chipotle Fritos in our home. Sorry, honey. I couldn't help myself.
