We spent very little time sightseeing in Montreal, mostly because we were there for the con instead of sightseeing, and also because we've visited before. But it's a beautiful city we do need to explore further, so we can find more gems like this, a section of the Berlin Wall:

Berlin Wall

Talk about something I'd never expected to see, much less randomly come across while following the underground pathway to the Palais de Congrès! I found it quite moving – I can't imagine what it must have been like to have concrete section after section of this dividing your city in two.

There was also a gorgeous multilevel light fixture in the Tour de la Bourse (the stock exchange):

The Palais itself is a magnificent building, one I could have spent an entire day photographing:

Its interior artwork, however, sometimes left something to be desired:

I mean, what the hell, man? What. The. Hell.

At the con, there are boards set up for broadcast messages. Sometimes, these are simply posts from people trying to meet up; sometimes, they're self-promotional; and sometimes, they're more like this:

The dealers' room/exhibition hall had a rather nice display of costumes worn in previous con masquerades:

Mistress of Dragons

Titania

This one, naturally, was called "The House Dress":

Oh, yes, I did promise a photo of Paul Cornell, didn't I?

Some costume shots from the hallways and masquerade:

This one is grainy, because I had to zoom way the hell in to get the costume decal. Yes, it's the mighty Klingon hero Bat'leth! (Designed and modeled by a friend of [livejournal.com profile] bruyere_75's, as it turns out.)

Bat'leth!

But my favorite con participant photo by far is this one, because of what the guy is carrying. We were walking by him outside, and when I realized what was on top of the squid tail, I stopped him so I could take a photo.

All hail the Winslow-Squid!

They remind me of the ducts available in designer colors from "Brazil."
