PLANT RAAAAAAAAAAAGE

The tree pruners finally left, so I went out to the backyard to check on the damage and discovered that not only is our yard now full of impact craters, my beloved giant rudbeckia is GONE. One hundred percent, totally, completely gone, cut down to a few inches of stalk. It was in full bloom and one of my favorite plants to look at.

I have to think that something large fell on it, and the guys had no choice to cut it back. But I am very, very, very angry that no one checked with me first.

If this plant doesn't come back next year, the neighbor is buying me a new one.

Echinacea and rudbeckia are related, so I'm not surprised they look alike!

Those tree guys are definitely getting a piece of my mind when they come back later this week. Bastards.

Don't get me started. I already had to snipe at my mother this weekend for suggesting that the title of that movie was going to teach a generation of teenagers that bad spelling was okay.

There is a running joke among the film writers I know, that we are all looking forward to the day when we can spell "bastards" correctly again. Seriously, my fingers have stopped autocorrecting when I type "Basterds" now. Damn you, Quentin Tarantino.

You mean that you don't think that it will further loosen spelling habits, or that you resented being reminded that it certainly will?

There are lots of things that may be responsible for a decline in literacy -- text messaging and IM being the most obvious candidates -- but Quentin Tarantino deciding to misspell two words in a movie title is so far down on that list you'd need an electron microscope to see it.
