Topsfield Fair 2011

It was Topsfield Fair day yesterday.

There were sleepy sheep:



and a terrified tree:



a random faerie:



and her turtle house:



mutant cephalopod face-painting:



John Travolta guest-modeling on a carousel medallion:



Smurfs hanging for dry-aging:



a new ride you'll never get me on (although I did ride the log flume):



Raphael in squash form:



and best of all, the periodic table of pumpkins.

How high up did that pumpkinodic table go? Where there lanthanides and actinides (those would have to be carved out probably, with glowing lights inside)?

Unfortunately, it was just those twelve elements; I think each diorama gets a limited amount of space. Still, it packs a lot of awesome in that tiny space, doesn't it?

The fairy is scary, but I like her turtle house. Also the sheep.

The fairy was immensely popular with the little kids. She was wandering through the fair, so I never did figure out if she was an official participant (who typically have stationary booths) or some very enterprising and talented cosplayer.

Damn, I want to go this year, but I have that surgery on my wrist on Friday. Maybe I could go Wednesday afternoon/evening. ::ponders::

(I had done a little series of photographic essay pages (http://www.windhaven.com/topsfield/cows.html) of the fair, back in 2001, when a friend from NYC, eleanor, came up to visit. The more things change, the more the Topsfield Fair remains the same, eh? :) )

My God, it really is the same! I'm glad you got some shots of the racing pigs -- I've never been able to get close enough to see them myself.
